In a marathon effort (pardon the pun 😂 🏃🏼‍♀️) the new AURA site was launched on the weekend - Australian Ultra Runners Association. Their old site was on Wordpress and they wanted something easier to use for their mostly volunteer admin staff. And of course a better looking site! The site included 16 x content collections, 787 blog posts, 2,244 images uploaded, new membership system plus a host of other features. It doesn't happen all that often, but once in a while you will hear those magic words from a client "I trust you, do what you think looks good". And that's what Anne from @friendsofhazelhurst said to me recently when she was briefing a new website. Friends of Hazelhurst are a local social enterprise group dedicated to supporting and engaging local artists and the art community. I was invited to attend one of their gatherings and had the wicked opportunity to have a stickybeak around the heritage listed Broadhurst Cottage. The interiors of the cottage are to-die-for art deco and I spent the afternoon taking photographs and finding out more about the fascinating history of the cottage. Spending this time here helped me to start to develop a plan about how the website might look. I came up with a look that was a little left of centre. It needed to be "arty" and creative, so I went with strong, black & white typography with a minimalist menu and then focused on textures and colours found throughout the cottage and grounds. The pink camellias used on the home page are strongly associated with the history of the cottage. A recent fun job for @cronullawaterpolo - creating a bit of branding and club pride at Sutherland Shire Leisure Centre with 2 enormous vinyl banners. The banners feature space for the club to mention upcoming games, as well as how to join info for new players. A logo created for a client at, you guessed it, Milton, NSW south coast! This logo came with various formats to be used by the client across all mediums, in all circumstances. The mistake that many DIY'ers make when designing their own logos is they don't think about how the logo will need to be applied and adapt on various mediums, like website, social, print, uniform, signage etc. Does it scale well? Is it legible at all sizes? Do you have a landscape and portrait version? New site to go live! How much fun does playing for Gymea look? Their old site was super dated and not incredibly functional, so we projected the club into 2022 with a new, easy-to-navigate, informative and good looking site. As with many volunteer organisations, getting hold of decent photos was an issue, but being local, I popped up to the courts one arvo and took a few shots which makes ALL the difference! Sometimes I get a client who is hesitant to go ahead with new branding - especially when, like @acorn_building you already have it plastered across site signage, vehicles, uniforms etc. The thought of changing everything can be overwhelming. That’s when a refresh is sometimes in order! So that’s what we did with this client - using the same colour palette, and keeping similar shapes but modernising and simplifying the logo. Throwback to earlier in the year when @kookaburrakids came to me with a very cool idea for a fundraising visual. They wanted a poster to display at an event, and each time somebody donated $1k they would add a colour feather to the poster, with the hope that by the end of the night, the poster would be so full, it would just about take flight.
